EXHIBITIONS

The museum's permanent exhibits invite you on a journey from ancient times to the modern age. Listen as the diverse species and wide collection of human artifacts each tell us their own unique stories about the cultural and human history of the Kitakyushu region of Japan. The museum is centered around a main hall where you will find a collection of massive dinosaur skeletons. From there you are free to explore the various surrounding exhibition spaces at your own pace.

    This area introduces the most representative organisms that appeared on Earth in chronological order.

  • Time-Traveling Room

    The Kitakyushu region of approximately 130 million years ago is recreated in a 360-degree diorama.

    This area introduces a wide variety of modern creatures living in different environments through a wealth of actual specimens.

    This area introduces the representative natural scenery of Kitakyushu through dioramas and specimens.

    This area is a space where you can visually experience the beauty of Japan, including its festivals and culture.

    Residences from each era have been recreated, allowing you to experience what life was like at the time.

    Many valuable materials that convey the history and culture of Kitakyushu are on display.

  • Cultural Study Garden

    You can visit a traditional Japanese farmhouse with a thatched roof.

FAQ

When is the museum closed?

We are open daily, seven days a week. We are temporarily closed, however, during the year-end and New Year holidays, as well as the second half of June every year for insecticide treatment. In case of temporary closure, we will notify you on our website.

Can I re-enter?

You can re-enter the permanent exhibition area as many times as you like on the same day by bringing the admission ticket you purchased that day. Please note that re-entry may not be possible during special exhibitions or other special events, so please check the museum information.

Is there a place to eat and drink?

The museum does not have a restaurant or other place where you can eat.
You may re-enter the museum, so please feel free to eat in the tent located outside the building or at a restaurant nearby.
Drinks are available in the rest area with vending machines.
Please note that we may be able to provide a meal venue for groups, so please contact the group reception desk.

Do I need an appointment?

Reservations are not required to enter the museum (as of March 2023). However, if you are visiting in a group, we ask that you make a reservation in advance.
